The Timars OH - frame is a semi-automatic overheight spreader which has been developed in order to assist operators with the safest and most efficient handling of oversized cargo such as flats, bolsters and open top containers.


The locking of the twistlocks of the Timars OH - frame follows the twistlock operation of the parent spreader, therefore no external power supply or hydraulics is required during spreader attachment or operation. The fully mechanical operation leads to less down-time.The OH - frame is manually attached under any parent spreader with ISO standard base measurements (usually with only minor modifications).  The OH - frame then acts as "extended legs" to the parent spreader. This provides a much improved, safer and faster method of handling cargo when compared to using chain slings etc.

The Timars OH - frame is fitted with 2 x securing handles for attachment to the parent spreader.

Attaching (before use) and removing (after use) is completed manually by turning the securing handles through 90 degree. Turning of these handles operates a linked security device that keeps the OH-frame attached to the parent spreader, independent of the twistlock positions of the parent spreader,

When the twistlocks of the parent spreader are locked inside the top corner castings of the OH - frame the frame is then secured to the parent spreader in exactly the same manner in which a container would be attached.

When the twistlocks of the parent spreader are unlocked the security device of the OH – frame remains attached to the twistlocks of the parent spreader.

Some minor adjustments may be required on the existing parent spreader. Timars can provide full details  of the modifications once the type / model of parent spreader has been advised.

The OH – frame is available in a range of configurations. Select from telescopic 20ft - 45ft or fixed frames available to suit 20ft & 40ft ISO containers. There are also various free overheight options available.  The low tare weight and unique telescope system leads to simple adjustment of the frame. The parent spreader must be allowed to telescope when in a locked twistlocks mode.

When the parent spreader is attached to the OH - frame the twistlocks of the OH - frame are operated in conjunction with the twistlocks of the parent spreader via an internal link. This link ensures that locking the twistlocks of the parent spreader will automatically lock the twistlocks of the OH – frame.

Twistlock indicators on the inside of each extended leg are included to indicate to the driver of the crane, reach stacker, straddle carrier or any other handler, the status of the twistlocks of the OH - frame. Standard colour system comprises Dark green = OH open twistlocks and dark red = OH locked twistlocks.

Safety Twistlock Blocking -system (STB-system):
The OHA-frame is equipped with an intelligent STB-system that blocks the twistlock(s) from
turning if it is resting incorrectly on top of a flat/ box or the quay. Each twistlock is also fitted with a control-pin which blocks the twistlock from locking when the twistlock isn’t in the correct position.

The Timars OH has a secure built-in system that ensures that the twistlocks in always in the locked or unlocked position, even when the OH - frame is not attached to the spreader. This secure system prevents the risk of fault when attaching the parent spreader to the OH – frame.
